Tokyo, Japan, 23-24 May
Disabled Peoples’ International Asia-Pacific (DPI AP) will co-host its Regional Assembly with the Japan National Assembly of Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI-Japan) on the 23rd and 24th of May, 2016, at Toyama Sunrise in Tokyo, Japan. This is the first meeting in the third Asia-Pacific decade of persons with disabilities since 2013. Previous one was held in October, 2012, in Incheon, South Korea.
Throughout this two-day meeting, new Regional Councilors and Executives will be elected. Furthermore, DPI AP will officially launch the discussion toward the mid-year evaluation of Incheon Strategy to “Make the Right Real” for Persons with Disabilities in Asia and the Pacific. Also, the importance to mainstream disability in Sustainable Development Goals and to fully implement the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the region will be reaffirmed.
Co-organisers deeply recognise democracy is the key for solidarity and unity of disability movement. Therefore, all the processes are open for all Member National Assemblies (MNAs) of DPI AP. In his appeal, Shoji Nakanishi, the Regional Chairperson, urges all twenty-five MNAs to “join together at our General Assembly to show our strong unity and power for the advancement of rights and quality of life for persons with disabilities”
